Malnutrition |
Malnutrition can be defined as an imbalance between the intake of nutrients and the patient´s basic nutritional requirements. This malnutrition can be caused by an insufficient intake of nutrients, generally associated with a disease (dysphagia, cancer…), loss of nutrients (malabsorption of nutrients, intestinal diseases…), increase of energy consumption... The early identification of malnutrition can reduce the occurrence of certain diseases (fractures, decubitus ulcer, infectious diseases…), shorten hospitalization times and prevent the chain development of complications. |

Dysphagia |
Dysphagia is caused when there is disorder in some of the swallowing phases. It is a common disorder that can have a significant impact on quality of life and in most of cases, it can go completely unnoticed. In the treatment of dysphagia, we must look for solutions in order to prevent problems derivated from this disorder, in other words, we must ensure a correct nutrition and hydration and reduce the risk of aspiration. |
