Energy saving in Vegenat

At Vegenat we always bet on sustainability. For this reason, we always dedicate all our efforts to a respectful production with the environment.

Renewable energies are no longer an option, but an obligation in our commitment to protect the planet. Thanks to them we get energy inexhaustibly and without producing greenhouse gases. And what better renewable energy than that which is available to us for at least 2,500 hours a year and which never runs out?

We talk about solar energy. This energy is that which is obtained from the sun in the form of electromagnetic radiation (light, heat and ultraviolet rays).

Spain is one of the countries in Europe with the greatest number of hours of sunshine. And, at Vegenat, we know how to take advantage of it. Economic investments are being made in photovoltaic applications as energy sources that will reduce CO2 emissions. These solar panels contain photovoltaic cells that, when receiving light directly, ionize and release electrons that, when interacting with each other, generate electrical current.

The advantages of using this energy are:

  1. Zero CO2 emissions: since the last 170 years, and at an accelerated rate in the last three decades, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has skyrocketed to values that currently reach 415 parts per million.
  2. Avoid global warming: The temperature of the planet increases at a great rate. In the last 100 years, the global average temperature has increased by 0.76ºC.
  3. It contributes to sustainable development, that is, being able to satisfy the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, guaranteeing a balance between economic growth, care for the environment and social well-being.
  4. Inexhaustible source. Unlike traditional sources of energy such as coal, gas, oil or nuclear power, whose reserves are finite, the sun’s energy is available all over the world.
  5. Economic energy

OUR SOLAR PANELS

At Vegenat S.A, we have installed, with an investment of just over 1 million euros, more than 3,300 solar panels throughout the factory in a project that has been divided into three phases. Specifically, 10,022 m2 of surface area have been occupied with said panels.

This means an annual saving of close to €200,000 and a saving of 31% of the energy we need throughout our different campaigns: onion, citrus, anchovy and dehydrated olives.

With the growing economic and energy crisis that we are experiencing in recent months and living in a region like Extremadura, where we can be proud of having more hours of sunshine than in many other places in our country, without a doubt this is the future to be able to continue growing and meeting all the needs of our customers as well as being able to contribute to the conservation of our planet.
